Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula is probably one of the coolest places you’ll ever experience with a myriad of boutique style hotels and rustic nature and fishing lodges. You can reach Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula via a 10 hour drive (which is really fun with scenery out of a movie) which if you have time to rent a car and take your time, can be split up over a couple of days to enjoy or fish in (we can set you up with good captains along the way) as well. Otherwise you can catch a 45 minute flight from San Jose (Costa Rica’s Capital City) and be in fishing in the Osa Peninsula and at one of the many piers/launches and ready to fish just past sunrise (or at your leisure).
Costa Rica is only 2.5 hours from Miami or 3.5 from Houston Texas just to give you an idea of how close we are to the USA. You will need a passport that is valid 90 days from your entry date. This detail gets a LOT of people, so please, make sure your passport is up to date and good for at LEAST 90 days after your entry at immigration in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Hotels in San Jose: To really, comfortably enjoy your Osa Peninsula fishing trip in Costa Rica, you will want to spend your first and last night near the San Jose Airport (Juan Santamaria Airport – Code SJO). We work with 4 hotels around the airport that generally work for everyone’s taste and budget. We do not recommend hotels in the heart of San Jose as crime in and around the city’s red light district has gone way up. The airport area and places like Escazu, La Garita, and Santa Anna are very safe (comparatively). We also like the Holiday Inn Express because it is litterally right at the airport entrance making missed flights or other last minute issues like a forgotten passport a non-issue before catching your local flight or renting your car.
Make your your hotel part of a cultural experience: To really get a great feel for the local culture near the captial in safe 4 star environment we have a charming 34 room resort we like to use with a giant and we mean giant pool in one the nicest suburbs of San Jose. Contact us for our top ten hotels and suggestions for Airport Area hotels. We also have advise for those seeking nightlife, casinos, or San Jose area attractions such as the Poas Volcano, Waterfalls, Golf or Coffee plantations, day tours which can be done before or after your fishing trip.
Osa Peninsula Hotels can be found in the most abundance in and around Puerto Jimenez. Puerto Jimenez is located directly on the Osa’s Golfo Dulce which is where the inshore fishing takes place regardless of if you’re staying in Jimenez, Golfito or Zancudo. We recommend hotels based on proximity to fishing, reputation, your requirements and our relationship with the owners/managers. Again, we would never recommend a hotel without staying there first (many times). We usually have several options in every main city/town/village on the Osa. Drop us a line and let us know what you’re looking for and we’ll give you our top staff picks.
We recommend Osa Peninsula Hotels in the following areas to be close to the public pier or launch area of your fishing operation, lodge or charter service.
Contact us if we can assist you in any way including answering basic questions.
Before thinking about accommodations, remember to browse and select your target fishing species and select your captain or lodge of interest.
Osa Peninsula Fishing Trips offers hotel, lodge and resort advice but please, feel free to use your own options. We’re here to help, not pressure people into hotels that fit our business model.
